Weeds Enforcement Process
Process for Weeds Enforcement
-
Once the Building Commission receives the complaint, the inspector will inspect the property generally within two (2) business days.
-
If the property is found to be in violation, the inspector leaves a pink flag at the address and takes photos of the violation.
-
The following business day, a notice is sent to the owner of recording giving them ten (10) days to remove the weeds or rank vegitation.
-
The inspector will re-inspect the property after the required ten (10) day notice.
-
If the property is still in violation the order will go to a contractor to mow the property.
-
Once the Building Commission receives the invoice from a contractor, a bill is mailed to the owner of record.
Property Liens
If a bill for weed cutting/removal services is not paid within 30 days, a lien will be recorded against the property in the Vanderburgh County Recorder’s Office. The liens are placed on the property taxes twice a year.
