Trash & Debris Appeal Process

Process for an Appeal

The owner of record can request an appeal hearing by writing a letter to the Building Commission within ten (10)  days of the date of the bill.

  • The appeal would have to meet the following:
    • Work was not performed on the noticed property or was performed before the ten (10) day required notice.
    • The amount of charge is incorrect based on the size of the property or the owner was not served legal notice of the violation.
  • The City's Hearing Officer will consider such appeals and may adjust or waive said cost as individual circumstance may warrant.
  • The decision of the Hearing Officer may be appealed to the Circuit or Superior Court of Vanderburgh County according to law.

Property Liens

If a bill for trash removal services is not paid within 30 days, a lien will be recorded against the property in the Vanderburgh County Recorder’s Office. The liens are placed on the property taxes twice a year.
