The goal of the Vanderburgh County Superior Court Misdemeanor Probation Department is to protect society through the supervision of offenders who have been sentenced by one of the seven Superior Court Judges, four Magistrates, or Circuit Court Judge and two Magistrates. The Misdemeanor Probation Department provides supervision of the offenders by daily, weekly, or monthly contact, makes referrals to alcohol/drug counseling classes, referrals to other agencies for daily needs, conducts urine screens, breath tests, and antabuse monitoring. The Misdemeanor Probation Department prepares pre-sentence investigations and conducts any other investigations as ordered by the Court. The Misdemeanor Probation Department is comprised of four Probation Officers, as well as support staff.
Minimum Qualifications for Probation Officers:
A Probation Officer shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and shall be an American citizen. A person who submits an application to take the examination for prospective probation officers shall have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and shall be a person of good moral character. A person shall take and pass an examination for prospective probation officers prior to employment or within six months from the date that the person is first employed as a probation officer.
