Posting Bond for a Defendant

Bonds posted on Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. must be posted at the cashier window in the Vanderburgh County Clerk's Office, Courts Building, Room 216, 825 Sycamore Street, Evansville, Indiana. Paperwork must be started no later than 3:45 p.m.

After normal business hours, the sheriff’s office will conduct off-hour bonding on behalf of the County Clerk’s Office on Monday through Friday between 4:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.

The person who is posting the bond must have a state issued photo ID as well as the exact amount of the bond in cash, cashier's check, or credit card. The credit card being used must belong to the person who is posting the bond. There is a non-refundable convenience charge on payments made with credit cards, based on the amount of the bond.

In order to post a surety bond, the person must contact the bail bondsman of their choice, located in the phone book. Bonds specified as cash only cannot be posted with a surety bond. Please verify the bond type when verifying the bond amount. 

Please note, any bond money posted for the release of any person charged with a criminal offense in Vanderburgh Circuit of Superior Court will be put in trust for the Defendant. If the Defendant uses the services of a Public Defender, any bond money, whether posted by the Defendant, his family, friends, or whomever, may be retained and used to pay the Public Defender or the supplemental Public Defenders fund for those services. In addition, the Clerk may hold court costs and a 10% retention fee from the bond posted here.
