Appeals

Trial and direct appeal public defenders are provided for indigent defendants at county expense. Contact the public defender who handled your trial or hearing if you wish to appeal a conviction or court ruling. They can advise you if it is in your best interest to appeal or not. There are time limits on appeal requests and you will need to initiate your request promptly.

Post-conviction relief representation is provided to indigent incarcerated persons by the Indiana State Public Defender, after the indigent inmate files a pro se post-conviction petition.
