IMPROVEMENT LOCATION PERMITS

Procedures, Applications, and Forms


Commercial / Industrial / Multi-Family

No building or other structure shall be erected, moved, relocated, added to, or structurally altered; nor shall any building, structure or land be established or changed in use; nor any building be changed in use per Building Code, without first obtaining an Improvement Location Permit from the Area Plan Commission. Plans are to be submitted for review by the Site Review Committee. Please refer to the ILP Application for more detail on the requirements for submittal. Plans submitted by Monday at 4:00 p.m. will be reviewed the next Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. via conference call (812-436-4556 PIN# 8330), or the next scheduled meeting if there is a holiday. Applications must be complete at the time of filing to be placed on the meeting agenda. A representative for the applicant must be present at the meeting for the application to be heard by the Site Review Committee. Site approval, if given, is good for 6 months from the original meeting date and an Improvement Location Permit is required to be picked up by the applicant at the APC office or the approval shall become void.


Residential Single Family / Accessory Structures

A permit is required for any improvement including new structures, additions, and accessory structures, i.e. yard barns, pools, etc. Plans are to be submitted to the Area Plan Commission office for review by staff. Please refer to the ILP application for more detail on the requirements for submittal. After staff review and approval, a permit can be issued over the counter. We are located at 1 N.W. Apply online for select permit types. Currently New Single Family Homes, Residential Additions, Accessory Buildings, Change of Business, Commercial Remodel and On Premise Sign permits are available. Sign Permits

A permit is required for all new signs or changes to signs (including face changes). With the exception of signage falling within the Exempt Signage Criteria.
