 What is the Parking Meter Department?

The Parking Meter Department is headed by the City Clerk.  The City Clerk is responsible for all activities and municipal functions connected with the Parking Meter Dept., the collection of fines, supervision of Parking Meter Dept. personnel, and maintenance of the parking meter system per Evansville Municipal Code 2.40.010.

Online at www.remit-online.com/812001.  Please note a convenience fee of $3.95 will be charged in addition to your parking fine.

In-person by cash, check or money order, Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the City Clerk’s Office, Room 314 of the Civic Center Complex located at 1 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Evansville, IN 47708.

Mail a check or money order to the City Clerk’s Office, Room 314 of the Civic Center Complex located at 1 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Evansville, IN 47708.  Please do not mail cash.

Drop Box.  Deposit your cash, check or money order in the drop box located in front of the Civic Center Complex at 1 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Evansville, IN 47708.

Why was I issued a parking citation?

Each ticket lists the type of violation by citing the specific municipal code violated with a brief description.  If you have further questions, please contact our office 812-436-4992.

 

I’ve lost my parking citation.

You may contact the City Clerk’s Office Parking Meter Dept.  Please have your license plate number prior to calling and we will look up the information needed to pay the fine.  Parking Meter Dept. 812-436-4992.

 

How much is a parking citation?

Most parking citations result in a $25.00 fine. However, if the fine is paid to the City Clerk’s Office within 30 days from the date of issuance, the violation fine shall be reduced to $15.00.

 

How long do I have to pay the fine?

30 days from the date of issuance.

 

What happens if I do not pay my parking citation(s)?

You will be subject to having your vehicle immobilized and/or summons to Vanderburgh Superior Court.

 

I believe my parking citation was improperly issued.

You may complete and submit a Dispute Form should you believe the citation was issued in error within 10 business days of receipt of citation to initiate a review of the citation’s issuance.  You will receive notification of the determination within 6 business days.

Citations will not be voided for the following reasons:

  • Being unaware of State Statutes or Municipal Ordinances
  • Failure to read signage
  • Inability to pay or financial circumstances
  • Lost or misplaced citation
  • Failure to remove or cancel license plates prior to selling a vehicle
  • No one else received a citation
  • Time constraints

You may download the Dispute Form here or pick one up in person at the City Clerk’s Office, room 314 of the Civic Center Complex located at 1 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Evansville, IN 47708.  Forms may also be submitted via email to the parking meter department.  

If emailing form, burden of proof of the form’s receipt by our office rests on the person submitting the form. 

 

Where are time-free parking areas downtown?

Time free and cost free parking is available in the “Back 40” lot located at 9th Street & Walnut.  This lot offers 1,100 spaces to those visiting the Ford Center, Civic Center, Old National Events Plaza, Victory Theater or downtown in general.

 

When is timed parking enforced?

Timed parking is enforced Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

 

What are rates for parking meters?

.05 Cents = 12 Minutes

.10 Cents = 24 Minutes

.25 Cents = 60 Minutes

 

How do I report a faulty parking meter?

Faulty meters may be reported to the City Clerk’s Parking Meter Department by calling 812-436-4992.

 

Where are parking garages located downtown?

There are three public parking garages downtown located at the corner of 3rd & Locust; 5th & Locust; 5th & Sycamore.  These garages are managed by the Evansville Vanderburgh County Building Authority.  For information about rates, electric car charging stations, etc., contact the EVCBA at 812-435-5801.

 

I am serving jury duty, where can I park?

Those serving jury duty are encouraged to park in the large “Back 40” lot located at 9th & Walnut.  This lot is cost free and free of time restrictions.  You will be subject to overtime violations if parking in the 1-hour lot located in front of the Civic Center. 

 

Where is motorcycle parking located?

Motorcycle parking is located on 9th Street and Walnut at the entrance of the city parking lot (known as the “Back 40”).  It is a concrete area south of the entrance with designated signage.

 

Where is parking prohibited?

  • On sidewalks
  • Yellow curbs
  • Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
  • On a crosswalk
  • Anywhere signage is posted prohibiting parking
  • In front or within 4 feet of a public or private driveway
  • Within 50 feet of the nearest railroad crossing
  • In the roadway or within an intersection
  • On a bridge or other elevated structure on a highway or within a highway tunnel

 

How do I apply for a handicap parking placard?

Handicap placards are handled by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.  For more information, visit www.in.gov/bmv or one of their Evansville locations.

How do I apply for a handicap parking sign in front of my home?

Contact the Board of Public Safety at 812-436-7897 or by visiting http://www.evansvillepolice.com/safety-board.

 

My vehicle has been immobilized.

You must contact the City Clerk’s Office Parking Meter Department within two business days of immobilization at 812-436-4992, Monday – Friday prior to 4:00 PM.  Your vehicle will remain booted until all outstanding parking citations have been paid and a $40.00 cash boot removal fee is paid.  If said fines are not paid within 72 hours of the boot, the vehicle will be considered abandoned and will be towed.
