STANDARD EQUIPMENT LIST

Each basic recruit is required to have the following items at the time of registration.  You do not need to bring these items on the first day of the Academy.  You will be given further instructions in reference to the equipment list on the first day of class.

Gym Bag

Mouthpiece (for defensive tactics training)

Cup/Athletic Supporter-female athletic supporters are available

Laptop Computer / Tablet -  Must be capable of viewing PDF, PowerPoints, etc., WIFI and USB port for transferring data, also required – The Evansville Police Department will not provide recruit laptops.

Training Handgun

- polymer (non-functioning), any brand (Blueguns, Blackhawk, ASP, etc.) but must fit the recruit's duty holster, will be utilized throughout academy

 

Duty Holster-must be serviceable holster in good condition that is matched to the duty weapon, Blackhawk Serpa holsters will not be allowed on the range

Pair Handcuffs (with keys) 

Duty Flashlight 

Ballistic Vest - recruits will begin wearing vests during the 2nd week of the Academy (if available)

Issued Duty Gear-holster, handcuff case, magazine pouch, etc. 

 

S.T.O.P.S. Tactical Manual -manual is required for each recruit attending -cost per manual is included in the SWILEA fee and will be ordered for the recruit.

 

Airsoft Training Mask -must have full face protection

 

Legal Guide for Police: Constitutional Issues, 11th Edition by Jeffery T. Walker, Craig Hemmens – printed or digital copy available from Amazon.com and other textbook retailers *optional

 

  1. FIREARMS TRAINING EQUIPMENT LIST

Students will be required to have the below listed items at the start of the firearms training portion of the academy class:

Duty Handgun

-must have iron sights installed- handgun optics may be used after handgun qualifications are competed-  weapons must have usable iron sights and sights must be appropriate for pistol/optic combination.

Blackhawk Serpa holsters will NOT be allowed on the range

Duty Shotgun (IF AVAILABLE)

-must be a serviceable 12 gauge police service type shotgun- must have properly installed, working sights and usable sling -optics must be zeroed prior to attending training

AR-15 or similar patrol rifle - must be chambered in 5.56 mm, be in safe working condition and have usable sling - optics must be zeroed prior to attending training
