Training
The Training Division of the Evansville Fire Department is responsible for coordinating, conducting and presenting training activities for all personnel.
The Training Division maintains individual and company training records, assesses the training needs of department personnel and develops programs to meet these needs.
The Training Division staff consists of the Deputy Chief of Support Services, EMS Coordinator, and three Firefighting Instructors
The Training Division Goals are:
- Ensure that all firefighters are fully trained to respond safely and effectively to emergency incidents. This includes everyone from our entry level firefighter to the most senior firefighters.
- Conduct and coordinate training for suppression personnel to enhance skills and ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local mandates.
- Provide a library of promotional books for (14) Fire Stations and Administration personnel.
- Manages the EFD Training Tower, located on Buchanan Road. This facility coves a 1.5 acre area with a (4) four storey training tower. The training tower has a confined space prop, self rescue maze, interior stairwell, and a Fire Department connection for a standpipe/sprinkler system. Also located on the site is a burn pit, a roof simulator and a burn chamber for training in evolutions of entering (2) two different fire scenarios. The department uses this facility for recruit training and the ongoing training for all of its 273 members. The facility allows the department to focus on improving basic firefighting skills in areas such as laying hose lines, search and rescue techniques, ladder techniques and the use of self contained breathing apparatus.
The Training Division has additional fire training props located at the Administration Building located at 550 S.E. Eighth Street. These additional training aides consist of a forty person classroom, a two storey apartment simulator with moveable walls and various EMS training aides. Other training tools available at the Administration Building consist of a folding tank for draft training, a railroad tank car simulator, a demo board for electronic alarms, two full size hydrants, forcible entry practice doors, various sprinkler system hardware for sprinkler system training, an SCBA cascade compressor system, an electric meter simulator, a gas meter simulator and vehicle simulator.
