The Building Commission's enforcement of the Property Maintenance Code is intended to protect the public health, safety and welfare in all existing residential and nonresidential premises by enforcing minimum requirements and standards for premises, structures, equipment, and facilities.  We address concerns from citizens about Property Maintenance Code violations by phone, e-mail, walk-in to the office or a written letter mailed to the office.

Report a Property Maintenance Concern

• Phone in a property maintenance concern at (812) 436-7885.
• Email a property maintenance concern complaint.
• Come to the Bulding Commission in Room 310 of the Civic Center and report your complaint.
• Mail a letter to the Building Commission, 1 N.W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Room 310, Evansville, IN 47708.

Process for Property Maintenance Enforcement

• After we receive a concern, the inspector will inspect the property generally within two (2) business days.
• If the property is found to be in violation, the inspector will take photos of the violation and send a Notice of Violation letter to the owner of record giving them a minimum of ten (10) days to correct the violation.
• The inspector will re-inspect the property periodically. 
• If the property remains in violation, an enforcement action is taken by the Building Commission. 
• Enforcement actions typically include fines and public hearings ordering the correction or demolition of the property.
