The 3rd annual Splash into Summer donation drive will be held at Walmart West and Walmart East on Thursday, June 1, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The donation drive is a project of the Evansville Parks Foundation in partnership with several local corporate sponsors and community supporters (see attached flyer). The goal is to collect items that will be given to children and families to make swimming more affordable and to encourage attendance at city swimming pools.
Suggested items for the donation drive include swim trunks and bathing suits in all sizes for children and adults, beach towels, swim diapers and flip flops. Cash donations will be accepted to help offset the cost of cookouts that will be held at city pools this summer for swimmers, and to cover the cost of admission for children from families that cannot afford to pay.
The cookouts will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Garvin Pool on June 10, Helfrich Pool on June 17, Lorraine Pool on July 8, Rochelle-Landers Pool on July 15, and Mosby Pool on July 22. A free hot dog, drink, a bag of chips and a cookie will be offered with each admission to the pool.
Donated items may be dropped off Monday through Friday during regular business hours at the Department of Parks and Recreation office located at the C.K. Newsome Community Center, 100 E. Walnut St. Tax-deductible cash contributions may be mailed to the Evansville Parks Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 3112, Evansville IN, 47730.
